Neuroscientist Malcolm MacIver made a remarkable discovery about how human consciousness evolved. There was just one problem: how to explain it.

The brief for this project was to explain 400 million years of human evolution in way that is clear, concise, and entertaining for a lay audience…. and all without shooting any live action footage (since the live action happened millions of years ago).

Initially commissioned by Northwestern University, the video instantly became the most watched video on its YouTube channel. It was later picked up by AEON films and featured on their platform.
